Regularly servicing your vehicle is essential to ensure it remains safe on the road, whilst it can also make a difference with fuel efficiency, the way your vehicle generally runs and helps reduce the risk of breaking down and incurring expensive repair bills.

Most vehicles will need to be serviced once a year or every 12,000 miles depending on its age. Each vehicle manufacturer has a recommended service schedule which should be found in your owners manual.

Whilst regular servicing is highly recommended to keep your vehicle in good shape, unlike an MOT test, an annual service is not a legal requirement. However, if you think you’ll be saving some money by putting off your service, you could end up forking out a lot more in the long run if your car requires expensive remedial work that could have been avoided if flagged early during your service. Deterioration of your vehicle or its components can’t always be seen or heard, so a regular service helps reduce this risk as well as wear and tear.

Regular servicing can also save you money at the petrol station. New oil and air filters make a smoother and more reliable running engine as well as a more fuel efficient vehicle.

Protecting your vehicle’s value

Owning a vehicle with a full service history and up to manufacturers standards allows you to increase the resale of your vehicle when it comes to selling it on or offering it in part exchange for another vehicle.

When buying second hand vehicles, nobody wants to buy one with a patchy service record. If you are looking to sell your vehicle, by keeping it in a perfect condition (with full service and MOT history) you are more likely to attract potential buyers and a better price.
