Birway Managing Director Adrian Hammonds recently visited the head office and museum of Scania as a guest of the Swedish truck manufacturers.

Birway’s fleet are predominantly Scania, a brand recognised worldwide for reliability and performance. This trip was to explore the company’s investment in new technology including BEV, LNG, CNG, and Diesel trucks including the new Scania Super and the V8 range.

The Scania team demonstrated the trucks operation, and we looked on with interest at efficient driving techniques and skills to ensure how best to utilise the Scania system to improve efficient driving. We were also interested to see the new dash layout, the new efficient Scania super engine and gearbox train which can provide over 8% fuel saving on the previous models. We also test drove the new BEV electric truck and had a chance to discuss with the Scania team its development and capabilities.

We rounded off the trip with a complete factory tour showing us the assembly line and processes within the factory to maintain the excellent high level of standards that Scania are renowned for, as well as look at all the bench and rig testing which is completed on components before they are installed into a new truck. Adjacent to the factory is a museum with examples of Scania Trucks throughout the years, which we were fascinated to see the evolution.

Many thanks to the team at Scania for the trip.
